There is, then, a distinction to be drawn between a significant (padārthābhinaya) and liberating (vimuktida) art, the art of those who in their performances are celebrating God, the Golden Person, in both His natures, immanent and transcendent, and the in-significant art that is “colored by worldly passion” (lokānurañjaka) and “dependent on the moods” (bhāvāśraya). The former is the “highway” (mārga, Gr. hodos) art that leads directly to the end of the road, the latter a “pagan” (deśī, Gr. hagrios) and eccentric art that wanders off in all directions, imitating anything and everything.  •  Ananda K.
